Thanks Dick! Blessings to you and your family in the new Year as well! Is it my imagination or is there a snake under the claws in the first picture? Tried to zoom in but unable to.
You have a good eye, Alan. Yes, I think there is something under the owl’s talons. I also zoomed in but couldn’t quite make out what it was. I’m not absolutely sure what it is, but given the time of year, I don’t think it’s a snake. Given the locale there on the outlet from my swamp pond, my best guess is that it’s a frog. Surprisingly enough, even in winter, the racoons, herons, foxes, hawks (and owls, obviously) etc. still have luck in that spot hunting them.

Uncle John and I may just do that! We love your preserve! Oh yes, warmer weather will need to come…summer time in the north has always been preferable to the south.
